Step into the world of high fashion nostalgia as we journey back to Chanel’s Spring 1995 collection in this enthralling vintage fashion retrospective. In 1995, the definition of good taste, a quality long associated with the house of Chanel, was challenged and reshaped under the creative genius of Karl Lagerfeld.
Lagerfeld, known for his daring approach to fashion, reveled in pushing the boundaries of good taste, and this show was no exception. Models teetered down the runway in Frederick’s of Hollywood-style platform sandals with spike heels, donning deconstructions of Chanel’s iconic classics. Midriff-baring jackets, skirts with provocative slits and zips revealing matching tweed panties, bedazzled bras, and thongs worn as bikinis or under sheer black knits added a playful and cheeky twist to the Chanel aesthetic. Corselet-like inserts on suits and as waistbands on skirts embraced the lingerie theme, blurring the lines between innerwear and outerwear.
This collection, like all of Lagerfeld’s work for Chanel, paid homage to Coco Chanel’s self-invented and self-made spirit.
